William Murray Gay Jr. Obituary (1953

William Gay was born in Eufala, Alabama on November 2, 1953. He spent his young years growing up and playing on the family farm in Georgetown, Georgia. We have heard so many of the escapades that he and his sister Terri and cousins, Gaye, Joe, Arthur and Anne got into it's a miracle they survived to an old age. In the 4th grade, his family moved to Troy, Alabama. William played football and basketball in high school and participated in the rodeos for FFA. After graduating from Charles Henderson High School he joined the National Guard. While in training in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma a friend introduced him to LaNelle Copeland, whom he married in 1974. They had two children, Stacey and J.W. He was very involved with any activities the kids participated in. He coached little league baseball and little dribblers basketball. He was one of the loudest cheerleaders in the stands when Stacey or Jay were playing sports. He loved to golf with J.W. and was always their biggest cheerleader. He became a grandfather in 2010 when Hailey was born and again in 2015 when Mattie was born. His family was the most important part of his life. He loved us LARGE! William is survived by his wife, LaNelle , children, Stacey Ray and husband, Blake of McKinney and J.W. Gay of Ft. Worth, grandchildren, Hailey and Mattie Ray, sisters, Terry Braud and husband, Steven and Frankie Hubbard and husband, Wayne, and nieces and nephews Meredith, Rachel, Cheryl, Daniel, Jonathan and Wesley.
