Venus, Texas
Rex Edward Brown, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on August 30, 2026.
Born on October 20, 1943, in Direct, Texas, in Lamar County. Rex spent his earlier life in the DFW area and later made his home in Venus, Texas.
Rex was the 7th of 8 kids in a very tight-knit family. He loved his siblings and eventually became the patriarch of the Brown clan. He attended all family functions, enjoying every get together. Family and friends were very important to Rex, and he was always making memories, telling stories, and keeping those around him laughing.
Rex was one of a kind. He was the definition of cheeky, always looking for an opportunity to joke around. He genuinely enjoyed giving everyone a good laugh, especially by enrolling the young wives into “Rex's Wife Training School” which was always a hit.
If there was a game to be played, Rex was ready. He grew up playing games and learned his competitiveness from his mother. He was a true gambler and a shark at just about anything involving a little competition—dominoes, pool, cards, dice, darts, you name it. Back in the day he loved going out to the Brass Rail, Sensations and Tommy's Oasis among other establishments to listen to music, shoot pool or playing shuffle board while spending time with friends and family. He loved board games too (and believed in not wasting paper keeping score...he used every inch) Yahtzee and Monopoly were probably his favorites, and he could absolutely dominate at checkers.
Rex also loved deer hunting and treasured the time spent at the deer cabin surrounded by family and friends. Of course, if you were lucky enough—or unlucky enough—to share a deer cabin trip with Rex, you knew one thing for certain: 4:30 AM was wake-up time. Rex started every day at 4:30 in the morning, and he firmly believed everyone else needed to be awake at 4:30 right along with him.
He loved being surrounded by the people he cared about, cutting up, telling stories, playing games, and simply having a good time. Those who knew Rex will remember his humor, his competitive spirit, his stubborn streak, and the unmistakable way he could make himself known in any room he entered.
Professionally, Rex was a machinist in the aerospace industry, a career that reflected his skill, precision, and hard-working nature.
Rex leaves behind a family who will miss his laughter, his stories, his competitive spirit, and, of course, all the ways he loved to aggravate them.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents William Joseph Brown and Lillie Lee Smith Brown; his wife Barbara Diane Mouser Brown; his siblings Elsie Young, Jimmie Brown, Jewell Ellsworth, Bill Brown, Darlene Baxter, JW Brown, and PQ Brown; and his son, Terry Wayne Brown.
He is survived by his daughters Sheila Ramirez and Shelley Ishmael; sons Rex Edward Jr. “Bub”, Jeff Rorie and wife Michelle, Chris Brown and wife Lori; grandchildren Angela Felix and husband Miquel, AJ Escamilla, Eric Johnson, Andrew Hernandez and wife Haliegh, Nick Hernandez, Riley Robinson and husband VonDerrick, Reagan Rorie, Kalem Rorie, Diana Boss, Adriana Thomas and husband Tyler. As well as numerous great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and his lifelong best friend, Jimmy Parker.
Rex leaves behind a lifetime of memories and stories that will continue to be told for generations. Though he may no longer be sitting at the table, shuffling cards, shaking dice, lining up dominoes, or giving someone a hard time and calling all females "Sugar" (only because he couldn't remember their name) his presence will live on in the family and friends who knew and loved him.
Rest easy, Rex. Until we meet again, I’ll be on this side of heaven practicing my rolls for our next game of Yahtzee.
