Midlothian, Texas
Patsy Melton was a farmer's daughter whose father grew and harvested cotton. She and her four sisters worked many laborious hours in the field hoeing weeds from the cotton and Patsy was quoted as saying, "I know one thing. When I grow up, I ain't gonna be no hoer". It was in Emhouse Texas in the first grade that she met her future husband, Tom Melton. They went through school together and were king and queen of their senior class. After marrying in 1954, Tom was drafted into the Air Force and the newlyweds moved to Savannah Georgia. It was here that sadly they lost their first born son, Ronald Earl. A year later, they welcomed Cindy but again another loss with her twin, Carolyn. Another 15 months later, they joyfully welcomed Tony. Soon after Tom was discharged from the Air Force and the family moved home to Corsicana Texas. Patsy went to work at K. Wolens Department Store and they completed their family with the birth of their son, Brian. In 1968, they moved to Midlothian where Patsy started a career at the First National Bank that spanned several decades and she acquired another "family". Patsy's greatest joy was family. In addition to her husband, children, and daughter-in-law Bobbi, she was inseparable from her four sisters. She was a mischievous aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, loved every member of Tom's family as her own and considered her friends "extended family". In addition, she was known as "Mama Patsy" to most of her children's friends because she had such a nurturing spirit. She was the most loving mother EVER! Then the real fun began when Patsy started having grandchildren. She returned to her second childhood with the births of Brittany, Bailey and Kali. She was instrumental in teaching them how to sneak out of the house and go on an ice cream run without Papaw ever knowing. She also made their breakfasts special even if it meant making three different meals for each grandchild because they all wanted something different. Later in life, Patsy was again blessed with great grandchildren, Brylee, Blakely, Mason and Rylan. Because she was older, she didn't share much mischief with them but loved theses babies with all her heart. Patsy had a vivacious personality. You couldn't take her anywhere that she didn't make a friend. But her deepest friend was her husband, Tom. They were married 66 years. They fell in love young, raised a family and walked through the mountains and valleys together. We know she is home now busy visiting friends and family and having one helluva card game with her sisters. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, A.C. and Jean Gray, her son Ronald Earl Melton and daughter Carolyn Jean Melton; her sisters Billie Ann Owen, Martha Gayle Horton and Betty Lou Eastland. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Earl Melton; daughter Cindy Melton and sons Tony Melton and Brian Melton (Bobbi); granddaughters Brittany Melton; Bailey Denny (Mason); and Kali Sparkman (Nathan); great grandchildren Blakely and Brylee Nugent, Mason Sparkman and Rylan Denny; sister Peggy Jean Moore; sister-in-law Jeanette Melton; numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family. Her interment will in Emhouse Texas at a family graveside service on Father's Day, June 21st.
