On Thursday, May 14th 2020, Mary Lou King passed away at home surrounded by her family, of natural causes. She was 84 years old. Mary Lou King was born in Texarkana, TX on November 26, 1935. She was the only child of Mina Powell and Godfrey Raymer. She grew up in Vivian, LA and went to school in Shreveport, LA. Mary Lou was a true native Texan from her independence to her being a descendant of the great Jim Bowie who fought at the Alamo and to which Mary Lou was born in Bowie County, Texas. On October 25, 1952, she married Charles Brower King while he was stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA.. Charles was career United States Air Force and they traveled the world stationed in many different places including Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, California, North Dakota, Newbury, England; Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany; Goose Air Base, Labrador; before retiring in Shreveport, LA. This Air Force life was perfect for Mary Lou, who made friends everywhere she went. Mary Lou was a licensed cosmetologist and she enjoyed traveling throughout the Midwest from Minnesota all the way to Texas with her semi-pro bowling team. She enjoyed singing in church, cooking, sewing and shopping. While in Europe, one of Mary Lou's loves was becoming a championship pinochle player where she won numerous valuable Hummels that she displayed proudly. Charles and Mary Lou were also exceptional roller skate dancers while they were living next door to Hank Williams in Bossier City, LA as newlyweds. Mary Lou loved her family and was the most amazing wife, homemaker and Mother to David and Ron. All of the kids and parents respected Mary Lou and wanted her to be their coach. She absolutely adored watching her boys play sports, as well as all of their friends. Mary Lou always volunteered as a Team Mother and mentor on their teams, where her kindness and loving nature showed through. Charles' second career with South Central Bell (now AT&T) kept them in Louisiana until retirement. The couple, now retired Grandparents, moved to the D/FW area to be closer to Ron and his family. Charles became ill and passed away in December 2004 and Mary Lou came to live with Ron and Kim and the children in Midlothian, TX. This was the most amazing situation for Mary Lou and all of Ron's family to be able to be a part of each other's daily lives. When Mary Lou became ill, she was never alone. If you knew her you loved her. She had a special way of connecting with people and showing a genuine interest in their well being.
