Lydia Magdelena "Oma" Davis Obituary (1928

Lydia Magdelana Davis of Midlothian, TX passed away peacefully in her home July 23, 2017 after a short battle with cancer, Lydia, better know as Momma, Grandma or Oma was born September 1, 1928 in Worms, Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth (Liza) Biesel, her brother, George and sister, Anna Maria Elizabeth, whom she named her daughter after. In her youth she was a competitive swimmer, winning many awards and medals, even swimming the Rhine River in Germany. She had a love for German culture and music. She taught herself as a young girl to play the accordion and continued to play lovely music for the rest of her life. She also played the harmonica and loved to sing. Lydia met "Pop" Alfred H. Davis, a U.S. Air Force soldier, in Worms, Germany and soon after they were married in 1948. As a growing family they traveled with his military career to many places until his retirement in 1965. After 44 years of marriage, she lost her beloved life partner to cancer in 1992. At this time she became a permanent resident of Midlothian and learned how to drive. Although being a war survivor and immigrant, she was able to put her hardships behind her and live a long happy journey. Lydia was very strong in her faith, love of family and the Dallas Cowboys. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and gathering everyone together to sing "Silent Night", and after the family sang it in English, she and Ria would sing it in German, holding strong to our German heritage. Her memory was amazing as she always remembered birth dates, even those of her great-grandchildren. She is leaving her legacy in the hearts and souls of all who loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Alfred H. Davis, parents, George and Liza Beisel, brother, George Beisel, sister, Anna Maria Elizabeth Beisel and grandson, Randy Davis. She is survived by children, Maria and Ivan Kerley of Midlothian, Joseph H. Davis and wife, Debbie of Cedar Hill and Alfred H. Davis Jr. and wife, Barbara of Midlothian, grandchildren, Mary Jones, Patricia Dunklin and husband, Ronnie, Rhonda Schaller and husband, Paul, Lesley Davis, Shery Kerley, Cheryl Hogarty, Karen Stewart and husband, Brian, Joseph Harvey Davis, Jr., Jessica Davis, George Davis and fiance' Kelley Moy, Jake Davis and wife, Hope and Jennifer Fry and husband, Alex. She is also survived by many great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
