Malia Selah Magee

Cedar Hill, Texas

In Loving Memory of

Malia Selah Magee

“Sparkle”

September 18, 2026

Our beautiful daughter, Malia Selah Magee, left this world before she ever had the opportunity to take her first breath, but the three precious days God allowed us to have with her were a gift we will carry in our hearts for the rest of our lives.

On September 18, 2026, at 29 weeks pregnant, we experienced what will forever be one of the hardest days of our lives. There are no words that can truly explain the heartbreak of losing a child before getting the chance to watch her take her first breath, hear her cry, or watch her grow.

But God gave us something we will forever be grateful for.

After delivering Malia by C-section, the hospital became a blessing in itself. They allowed our beautiful baby girl to remain with us in our room for three precious days. She was never taken away from us. We were able to hold her whenever we wanted, kiss her, rub her, talk to her, love on her, and simply be her mommy and daddy.

For three days, we got to love our daughter in the most beautiful way.

We will forever be thankful for every moment.

We believe every doctor, every nurse, and every person who cared for Malia and our family during those days was sent by God. They were there when we needed them most. They treated our daughter with love, dignity, tenderness, and compassion, and they gave us the space and time to say hello, to love her, and to say goodbye.

For that, we will forever be grateful.

We had made up our mind that God was blessing us with a beautiful baby girl with Down syndrome who would need all of our love, all of our care, all of our patience, and all of our support. We was ready for her. We had already accepted every part of the journey that we believed God was placing before us.

My Husband and I looked forward to loving her, protecting her, learning from her, and watching her become the beautiful person God created her to be.

And she was beautiful.

Malia never got to take a breath, but she brought so much light into our lives. In only three days, she gave us memories that will last a lifetime. We got to touch her, kiss her, hold her close, speak to her, and tell her how much Mommy and Daddy loved her.

She may have only been here for three days, but she will live in our hearts forever.

Selah — Pause. Reflect. Rejoice.

Long before we knew anything about Malia’s diagnosis, God placed her middle name, Selah, on my heart.

I didn’t understand why at the time.

But now I do.

Psalm 46:1–3 says:

“God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble. Therefore, we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with its turmoil. Selah.”

Selah means to pause, to reflect, to lift up, and to rejoice.

God knew the whole story before we knew the beginning.

We always make our plans, but God has the final say.

Our lives have been filled with so many things, so many responsibilities, so many plans, and so much happening all around us. And somehow, God used our precious Malia to make us pause.

To pause and look at what truly matters.

To reflect on everything He has already brought us through.

To recognize His grace.

To lift up His name even in the middle of our deepest pain.

And to rejoice because we know that Malia was never truly ours to keep. She was always God’s child first.

Malia was always His angel.

And now, she is back where she belongs—safe in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Our Little Sparkle

Her grandmother gave her the nickname “Sparkle,” and there could not have been a more perfect name for her.

Malia is our sparkle.

She is the brightest star in the sky—the brightest one we know.

Whenever we look up, we will think of her.

Whenever we see a beautiful light, we will remember her.

Whenever our hearts ache for the daughter we wish we could have watched grow, we will remember the precious three days God gave us with her.

We will remember the weight of her in our arms.

We will remember kissing her little face.

We will remember rubbing her gently.

We will remember talking to her.

We will remember loving her.

And we will remember that, for those three days, we were exactly what we had prayed to be:

Malia’s mommy and daddy.

We may never understand why God allowed our story with Malia to be so short.

But we trust the God who knew her before we ever did.

We trust that He knew every detail of her story.

We trust that He gave us those three precious days because He knew exactly what our hearts would need.

And we find peace in knowing that our baby girl is safe with our Father.

Malia, you were loved before we ever saw your face.

You were prayed for before we ever knew your name.

You were wanted.

You were cherished.

You were beautiful.

You were enough.

And you will forever be our daughter.

Mommy and Daddy love you so much, Malia.

We miss you every single day.

Thank you for giving us three beautiful days that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

Thank you for teaching us to pause.

Thank you for teaching us to reflect.

Thank you for reminding us to lift up God’s name even when our hearts are broken.

And thank you for showing us that a life does not have to be long to be meaningful.

Until the day God allows us to meet again, keep shining, our beautiful Sparkle.

Rest peacefully, our sweet girl.

You never took a breath in this world, but you filled our world with a lifetime of love.

Malia Selah Magee

Our daughter. Our blessing. Our Selah. Our Sparkle. Our forever.

“God is our refuge and strength.” — Psalm 46:1

Selah.
