Charles McHughes

–

Midlothian, Texas

Charles Ray McHughes, a man best described as witty, loyal, generous, and adventurous, left his earthly shell for his heavenly home on May 29, 2026. Born on the 11th of November, 1956, in Corsicana, Texas, Charles was a man of honor who loved life and cherished his family. For the last 28 years, Midlothian, Texas, was his home and the backdrop of his lifetime of stories.

Charles, a master plumber for over forty years, was known for his quick wit, often turning even the most simple moments into a reason to laugh. He could quote Saturday Night Live jokes as well as song lyrics. "What are you doing over there?" "Chopping brock o lee?" His enthusiasm for smoking brisket, hunting, and fishing was only rivaled by his love for his dogs, his garden, and his wife, Debbie, whom he married on September 2, 1977 (We're not sure why? Perhaps, some day we will know.) And let's not forget his sister-in-law, Pat, who he fondly referred to as his other wife (without benefits, of course). Charles' loyalty to his family and friends was admirable, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was particularly proud of his hot peppers and flowers that adorned his garden, but most importantly, he was deeply grounded in his faith. He was a proud member of the Chuckwagon LifeGroup at First Red Oak where he loved serving alongside his church family.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie McHughes; his sister, Verla Stanford; and his brother-in-law, Danny (Vicki) Warren. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Pat (Don) Griffith. Charles was greeted in heaven by his parents, Clarence and Pauline McHughes, his siblings, Shirley French, Stella Crandall, Billy Joe McHughes, and Gene McHughes. As a man of faith, Charles was comforted by the words of the Bible. One passage that epitomizes his life is found in Proverbs 18:24, "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Charles was that friend, that brother, to many. Even in his final moments he encouraged his family that it was okay, he was going to heaven; a beautiful testimony of his courage and faith.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 6:00pm at the Midlothian Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 11:00am at First Red Oak. Charles will be laid to rest at Red Oak Cemetery.

In the spirit of Charles' love for stories and memories, we invite all who knew him to share their favorite moments with him and upload their cherished photos on his memorial page. Let's remember Charles, not with sorrow, but with joy and laughter, as he would have wanted.
